What is Pixel Pitch and Why Does It Matter?
Pixel Pitch (p) describes the physical center-to-center distance between two adjacent LED diode clusters (pixels), measured in millimeters (mm). For example, a P1.25 display has exactly 1.25mm spacing between diode centers.
Pixel pitch directly dictates two critical factors in display engineering:
- Pixel Density (Pixels/m²): Halving the pixel pitch quadruples the total pixel count per square meter, exponentially increasing image sharpness.
- Minimum Visual Acuity Distance: The closer a viewer stands to an LED wall, the smaller the pitch must be to prevent the individual diodes from resolving as a visible screen door grid.
Selecting an excessively fine pitch unnecessarily inflates project hardware costs, whereas choosing an overly coarse pitch results in distracting pixelation for viewers in front rows.

2. Visual Acuity Distance (Retina Threshold)
Distance (m) = Pitch (mm) × 3.44
Based on standard 20/20 human vision resolving 1 arcminute (1/60th of a degree). Beyond this threshold, the human eye cannot distinguish individual LED pixels at all, perceiving a continuous image.
3. Average Comfortable Viewing Distance
Distance (m) = Pitch (mm) × 2.0 to 2.5
